Alistair Burt

Alistair Burt is a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Conservative Party in the constituency of North East Bedfordshire. He was elected to parliament in the June 1983 General Election with a majority of 12,251 votes.[1]

Burt was appointed Minister of State for the Middle East at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Minister of State at the Department for International Development on 13 June 2017. [2]

Burt was an FCO junior minister from 2010 until a government reshuffle in October 2013.[3] In May 2015, he was appointed Minister for Community and Social Care at the Department of Health.[4]

Revolving Door

He took up the role of Non-Executive Director of President Energy Plc, a gas exploration and production company, in February 2015.

In June 2014 Mr Burt was also allowed to set up an independent consultancy by the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments and took commissions from both Global Partners Governance Practice Ltd (GPG) and Global GSA Group. The Committee did advise that he seek confirmation for each individual commission under his consultancy.[5]

  • Voted very strongly for the Iraq war.[32]

  • Voted very strongly against equal gay rights.[34]
