titles

Hi,

should have mentioned the protocol for sub pages. They should in general be named with the name of the organisation and then a subtitle after a colon.

so Renewables Greenwash-Profile of the UK Business Council for Sustainable Energy. should be: UK Business Council for Sustainable Energy: Renewables Greenwash

or similar.

OK?

Grosvenor Gdns ref

HI Miriam

my internet connection will be down till Friday but am logging in from college... In Grosvenor Gdns page, is there a web ref for the Innovas report in ref no 1? I found one innovas report that might be 'it' at http://www.berr.gov.uk/files/file50254.pdf so if this is it, do put it into the ref so people can click on it. Also it's good to put the page no. in a ref if you are referring to specific quote or fact.

many thanks Claire R

Carrot

Hi Miriam

can u just add a ref to the Carrot Communications page where it says its clients include BT, Nestle etc? I assume this may be from Carrot's own website? If so, a ref with weblink to that very page is good.

thanks!

Claire R

Carrot

Hi Miriam

we have a page duplication--we have an old page called Carrot Communications Ltd and your new page called Carrot Communications. Your title is the one I prefer, without "Ltd". Can you, on your next foray into spin, just copy over all the info from the "Ltd" page and put it into the appropriate places on the newer Carrot page? also include any categories etc that are not in the newer page.

many thanks

Claire R

Social Venture Network Europe

HI Miriam

can u pls go into this page and add refs so that we know where the info has come from? this applies even to tedious things like lists of staff/board members etc as we have recently been challenged on whether someone was actually a member of something--fortunately we had a record of the web page concerned! I do something like

==Board members==

As of November 2009:<ref>[http://www.bloggsco.com Our People], Bloggs Co website, accessed 17 Nov 2009</ref>

*Joe Bloggs - chair

*Jane Biggs - president

Also if a website does not contain certain info it's esp important to say where we get it from, so can u add a ref to say where you got the 'undeclared' info from?

many thanks for your work. BTW I can't at the moment 'sign' my name electronically as am in funny browser but you can find my talk page and leave msj if needed by going to yours and then substituting my name, Claire Robinson, for yours, and then hit enter.

answers to yr questions

Hi Miriam

I reorganised AEA Tech and David seems to have done Carrot (he is very efficient!), so no need to do anything on those. In general before starting a new page it is always useful to type the name of the org into search box on left and hit Search (not Go) to see if anything similar exists. we need to avoid duplication. sometimes the old, existing page has an outdated name and it would be better to redirect to a new page with new name, as in the AEA case. Have a look at how I have done the redirect in AEA Technology by going to that page and hitting edit. Then you will know how to do redirects, if you don't already.

I think you are doing great. only one comment which is to reference every piece of info you can, no matter how trivial, as it seems even the trivial info is important to someone. I hope my broadband connection will be up and running again Fri so will have a closer look at things then.I assume you are developing the climate portal?

thanks and best wishes

refs

HI Miriam

In http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php/Associate_Parliamentary_Renewable_and_Sustainable_Energy_Group#cite_ref-4

I have changed two refs, nos 5 and 10, into new style refs, which we should aim for always in our new articles and when updating old ones. you will see that the old style ones point out of the page onto the web site referred to, whereas the new ones take reader to footnote and from there they can go to the site referred to. you can look in the History of the page I altered the refs in to see the differences--keeping one window open with new version and another with old version helps.

have a look at http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php/SpinProfiles:A_Guide_to_Referencing#Old_and_new_style_referencing

and I hope all will be clear!

do ask if not.

questions

HI Miriam

About FoI, I have asked David to reply to you on that as he is the expert on FoI requests.

re who's running Act on Cop, I can only find this re their website -- seems to be a govt thing purely http://www.actoncopenhagen.decc.gov.uk/en/about

at foot of page.

re who's running Road to Cop, see http://www.roadtocopenhagen.org/ and click on Sponsors and Partners at foot of page.

assume you know about http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php/Copenhagen_2009:_Who%27s_Who as to who is sponsoring COP15, quite scary--I know you have worked on this page recently so sure you do know.

re an article, wd be fantastic if you could do one re who's running all these joints -- personally I think that the "who's running COP 15" topic is food enough but would be good if you could find out anything more. NB we need to addres that question about, does it matter that car cos, airline cos etc sponsor these things as they have been part of prob. but maybe it's good because they can also be part of solution?? what way are car and airline cos going re the fuel they depend on? do they want to prolong the oil culture?

if you do an article -- can be very plain, just who and what -- then we can publicise thru twitter, spinwatch etc.

pls do add to climate portal page whatever you like -- this is definitely the idea of spin and my role is just to make sure that dodgy stuff doesn't go in and to edit what does go in, in line with our style, grammar etc. continuous improvement is the idea...

many thanks for your great work.

brilliant

Hi Miriam

brilliant stuff on summarising conflict of interest stuff on COP15 who's who sponsors--sorry hadn't realised you had done this, only just read it.

thanks! --Claire Robinson 14:30, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

what's new

HI Miriam

as COP is vital now, could you go into "what's new" box on main page of Spin and put in a couple of articles from Climate that you think are important, with links?

thanks!

--Claire Robinson 16:09, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

priorities

Hi Miriam

all sounds good. Personally I think a "who's asking for what at COP15 and why" ie those who they really want, would be great. and/or maybe "What are real solutions vs what the big guys will be pushing for?". we could put it on Spinwatch and press release it too?? The African babies thing is outrageous, as is the constant distraction of blaming the third world and their attempts to industrialise for the whole emissions disaster. The methane from livestock thing has always made me angry too, as the fact is that grain-based diets ferment in cows' guts--on a natural grass, hay and silage based diet they do not create as much gas...

many thanks --Claire Robinson 13:47, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

press

Hi Miriam

I am very happy with your plan. I have a list of press email addes (some email addes in it are defunct but one just has to put up with some bounces) that I can forward to you to use. I can guide you if needed on sending out press releases but probably you know how to do it. Unfortunately I will need to ask you to send them out as am under the gun with deadlines. But basically it's a matter of copying and pasting in the email addes all at once into the "to" section of your press release email. Press release should have your name and phone no so they can call you. Give Spinprofiles links to relevant articles if poss in your release. Do put the release thru me and David for us to check before putting it out.

I will send thru my phone no by email in case you need to call me.

many thanks --Claire Robinson 11:37, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

quote

HI Miriam

I am sure you plan to do this but can u add the outrageous quote that we talked about today to the approp page?? also give link in the ref to the youtube vid.

thanks! --Claire Robinson 17:51, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

quote

yes I see it, on the Opt Trust page, but think it deserves to be on his own page also!! in pride of place. cut and paste job fine

blokes

HI Miriam

small point--

http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php/Copenhagen_2009:_Who%27s_Who#Conflict_of_interest.3F

cd you just introduce these fellows Gramsci, Najam and Sklair with their full names and brief one- or two-word description, eg the evolutionary psychologist and author of books on Judaism, Joe Bloggs...

also we don't need to use quote marks where we indent. saves punctuation...

many thanks! --Claire Robinson 12:20, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

refs

HI Miriam

would be brilliant if you could give it a go. up to eyes here in other (Spin) stuff. I'll check as you go.

thank you! --Claire Robinson 16:10, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

PS

PS could you also explain who the chaps Gramsci etc are--see my previous but one message on yr talk page?

thanks! --Claire Robinson 16:12, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

writers

Miriam, the author(s) of the article that you noticed isn't well ref'd are not very active on the site, so probably not worth trying to contact them. However, if you have any spec queries, Andy R knows a lot about this field and may be able to help (he added the bit about the complaint to Spin). Think you have his email adde as he was in contact recently?

BW --Claire Robinson 16:27, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

url

HI Miriam

welcome back! hope u had good break. just a small point, don't forget to add the urls to yr refs--I added the one for the Greenwise News article in Carbon Capture and Storage Association.

many thanks

--Claire Robinson 14:11, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

page naming

Hi Miriam

a good question and our writers in the past have not been consistent. I figure it is best to go with how the company themselves spell their name. In case of McKinsey, seems to be McKinsey & Company, so good to go with that.

thanks for update on Grosvenor.

refs

HI Miriam

in http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php/John_Buttle can you reference the first 2 paras? if the refs are same as footnote 1, just repeat that in approp place. better to repeat refs than not have them...

thank you! --Claire Robinson 14:40, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Vanishing

Hi Miriam

no, I have no idea how to dig out more info on them. I see they are reg in Switzerland which must be handy for disappearing. Can you ask David if he has any ideas? let me know if he does?

thanks! --Claire Robinson 11:36, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Refs

HI Miriam

on your next foray into Spin can u reference the 2003 and 2008 members of this group:

http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php/Electricity_Networks_Strategy_Group

I do this when there's a list by starting the list with a sentence saying, In 2003 the members of XYZ consisted of: and putting the ref after this sentence--then it sort of applies to the whole list.

many thanks!

--Claire Robinson 17:07, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Biss

HI Miriam

might not be your contribution but am hoping you can add ref(s) to Biss Lancaster showing they've worked for mining cos? at the mo we just have refs re their representing arms firms.

many thanks

re Wyn Jones

HI Miriam

http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php?title=Wyn_Jones

i have wyn jones getting OBE in 2004 in this article http://www.nebusiness.co.uk/business-news/interviews-with-business-people/2008/08/26/defender-of-jobs-foresees-new-battle-51140-21603807/

you have 2003, not sure which is right. looked for the source you mention, Newcastle Journal, THE JOURNAL (Newcastle, UK). 'Jonny's made it a palace hat-trick', December 31, 2003

found a Gale Cengage archive source http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Jonny%27s+made+it+a+palace+hat-trick.%28News%29-a0111757170 but doesn't mention wyn jones. can u try to sort?

many thanks --Claire Robinson 13:56, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Al Federation

HI Miriam

http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php?title=Aluminium_Federation

few little things:

1. can u give source for this

ALFED also run the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the UK Aluminium Industry.

2. if using indented block quotes (using a colon to indent block quote), don't use quote marks in addition, unless you need them for quotes within the quote, if that makes sense.

3. use colon to lead into quotes, not semicolon, and avoid using "that" before the quote, in constructions like "said that:" Just "said" is neater. eg

When he got into power in 2001, Smith appointed a biotech lobbyist as his environment secretary. Smith said:

I thought it was a good idea at the time.

that's it! glad you are working on the Al industry.
