The Gatsby Charitable Foundation is a Foundation set up by David Sainsbury to help him reach his charitable objectives. The Foundation focuses on six programme areas:
- Plant science research
- Neuroscience research
- Science and engineering education
- Economic development in Africa
- Public policy research and advice
- The Arts
In 1967 Sainsbury set up the Charitable Foundation and its first grant was agreed at £50, which was given to the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. [1] Sainsbury (now Lord Sainsbury of Turville) has since given Gatsby more than £1 billion to distribute to charitable causes. [1]
Affiliations
The Gatsby Charitable Foundation is currently a donor to the Science Media Centre according to the SMC.
