The Gatsby Charitable Foundation is a Foundation set up by David Sainsbury to help him reach his charitable objectives. The Foundation focuses on six programme areas:

  • Plant science research
  • Neuroscience research
  • Science and engineering education
  • Economic development in Africa
  • Public policy research and advice
  • The Arts

In 1967 Sainsbury set up the Charitable Foundation and its first grant was agreed at £50, which was given to the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. [1] Sainsbury (now Lord Sainsbury of Turville) has since given Gatsby more than £1 billion to distribute to charitable causes. [1]
