Paul, nice effort on Tanter (and generally). I never said that Singer fired Tanter. I doubt he was chair of the dept when T left. What I said was, that Singer, as a young faculty member, helped recruit Tanter to UM, and later decided it was "the biggest disaster of my career" (informally, to me) If you want more, you should ask yourself. Singer would probably approve of your web site and might help.

==Exit from the University of Michigan==

Tanter was also a professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, for many years which for some reason is omitted from his official IPC biography. At the University of Michigan he was renowned for his pro-Israeli stance, and teaching history/politics of the Middle East with a strong zionist perspective. He frequently appeared as a featured speaker at events hosted by the [[Jewish National Fund]] (JNF). In 1989, Tanter also spearheaded attempts to expunge student journalists who were critical of Israel and US foreign policy from the student newspaper, the ''Michigan Daily''. His departure from the university seems to have been due to a disagreement with the head of the Political Science department and his departure seems to have been under less-than cordial conditions.
