The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an agency of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) launched in April 2011 pending planned legislation to establish it as an independent statutory body. [1]

Activities

The ONR brings together the safety and security functions of HSE’s Nuclear Directorate (incorporating the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate, the Office for Civil Nuclear Security and the UK Safeguards Office) and, from summer 2011, the Department for Transport’s Radioactive Materials Transport Division.

People

  • Nick Baldwin, former chief executive of Powergen is the ONR's interim Chair. The appointment is expected to be for 2-3 years, pending the successful passage of legislation to establish the ONR on a statutory basis.
