Michael Queen is the former chief executive of private equity group 3i. He stepped down from this role in March 2012 after 25 years with the company. [1] He was previously a member of UK Prime Minister David Cameron's Business Advisory Group from 2009 until June 2012.

Queen is currently a member of the European Advisory Board at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business. [2]

Biography

Queen was appointed 3i chief executive in January 2009, inheriting 'a portfolio that had plummeted in value amid the developing financial crisis. The company’s investments fell by £2.2bn in the year to March 2009, wiping out more than a third of their value'. [1]

According to the 3i website:

Michael joined 3i in 1987 ... He has previously been Managing Partner of 3i's Infrastructure business and Global Head of Growth Capital. During his time at 3i, he has worked in a number of offices in various roles and in 1994 he was seconded to the HM Treasury to help to develop the potential for the Private Finance Initiative in the NHS as Head of the NHS Private Finance Unit. Michael has invested across a broad range of sectors but has a particular focus on healthcare and financial services. [3]

Education

Queen has a BA (Hons) Industrial Economics from Nottingham University and is a qualified chartered accountant. In 2002/2003 Michael was Chairman of the British Venture Capital Association.
