Mark Lancaster MP for Milton Keynes North

Mark Lancaster is the British Conservative Party MP for Milton Keynes North and the current minister for the armed forces.

Lancaster was elected as an MP in 2005, re-elected in 2010 with a majority vote of 8,961[1] and increased this to 9,753 in 2015.[2]

In September 2012 Lancaster was appointed as a Lord Commissioner of Her Majesty's Treasury. [1]

In May 2015, Lancaster was appointed parliamentary under-secretary to the Ministry of Defence in the post-election reshuffle. He oversees defence personnel, welfare and veterans. [3]

Background

Lancaster served in the army before entering into a career in politics and was awarded his second long service medal, marking 22 years service by UK prime minister David Cameron in 2012. He continues to serve as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Engineers. [4]

In 2001 Lancaster chose to contest the Nuneaton general election in 2001 but was unsuccessful. In 2005, however, he was elected member for North East Milton Keynes. That same year he was also chosen to serve as a whip and shadow minister for international development. [1]

Following his re-election in the 2010 General Election, Lancaster was appointed as the parliamentary private secretary to the secretary of state for the Department for International Development. [4]

Visit to the United Arab Emirates

Lancaster was part of a 10-person parliamentary delegation to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in April 2012.

The trip lasted five days and gave British parliamentarians the opportunity to meet with senior government officials and private companies in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The UAE government paid £3,500 toward Lancaster's travel and accommodation. [5]
