In reply to a Freedom of Information email request in January 2009 regarding his membership of the AEF, the Freedom of Information Office of Strathclyde University sent the following reply " Professor Durkin has confirmed that he occasionally receives information from this group; his membership is not formal, but he did join a news list around 2003. As such there are no terms of membership and he does not receive any type of payment. He has not been asked by AEF to provide advice and he has never attended any events on behalf of AEF. " [3]
