John Boyle, millionaire Scottish businessman, gave £20,000 to the Labour Party on 16/4/99. He owns 25%, and is Chairman, of Motherwell FC (Matt Thomson also sits on the board). He was one of the ten Scottish businessmen who wrote a letter to the Scotland on Sunday newspaper in January 1999 to express support for the Labour Party (including William Haughey,Tom Hunter and Dr John Parker of Babcock International).

He sold Falcon Leisure, a cheap travel company, for £2.2 million in 1983. In 1998 he sold Direct Holidays to Airtours for £81 million (making £42 million personally, with his brother Hugh getting £14 million), remaining as Chairman.
