John Baron is the Conservative Party MP for Billericay and District, including Wickford, Pitsea, Laindon and the surrounding villages.[1] He is a member of the Cancer All Party Parliamentary Group.

John Baron MP hosted a House of Commons reception in 2007 which was organised by the charity Jo's Trust. [2] The event coincided with the first European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, the same year the cervical cancer vaccine Cervarix was licensed in Europe. The vaccination went on to be recommended as an immunisation programme in the UK by the Department of Health's Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation. In 2007, Jo's Trust received unrestricted grants and unrestricted educational grants from GlaxoSmithKline, the maker of Cervarix, and Sanofi Pasteur, the maker of its rival vaccine Gardasil.[3]

In 2004/2005, John Baron contributed to the Social Market Foundation's collection of essays on employee-supported volunteering, corporate volunteering schemes and its impact on citizenship.[4] He was also a keynote representative at the Social Market Foundation’s party Conservative party conference in October 2005 commenting on what the Conservative party should do about CSR (corporate social responsibility). The NHS Confederation, Pfizer, Bupa, the General Medical Council, GlaxoSmithKline and Merck were noted as some of the principal Social Market Foundation funders for that financial year.[5]
