Ideologies and Aims
The Global Warming Policy Foundation is a registered educational charity which was established in November 2009 by former Chancellor of the Exchequer Nigel Lawson. It deals with enquiries on climate change which was set up by the Universoty of East Anglia and others.[1]
The group opposes action to mitigate climate change and is "deeply concerned about the costs and other implications of many of the policies currently being advocated".[2]
Benny Peiser is a social anthropologist and director of the Global Warming Policy Foundation.
In a recent interview Benny Peiser states that the Global Warming Policy Foundation "is an educational think tank, entirely independent of any political party. Our Board of Trustees includes members of all three major parties here in Britain: Labour, Liberals and Conservatives".[3]
The main goal of the GWPF is not to run or participate in political campaigns but to educate the interested public. They do not practise protests; they merely inform the public of climate change issues and renewable energy debates.They want to bring balance to the whole climate and energy debate and want to enable people who have been unsettled by the controversies in recent years to better inform themselves and in a more comprehensive way. " We are explicitly and deliberately called 'The Global Warming Policy Foundation' to indicate that, unlike a number of other think-tanks (chiefly based in the US), our purpose is not to contest the science but rather to evaluate alternative policy responses"[4].
Lord Lawson (founder of the GWPF)states that the organisations main aim is to challenge "extremely damaging and harmful policies" put forward to deal with global warming.[5].

The GWPF Academic Advisory Council is composed of researchers, scientists, economists and science authors who provide the GWPF with timely scientific, economic and policy advice

Since 1997 Benny Peiser has been the founder and editor of the Global Warming Policay Foundation. He is a social scientist and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Buckingham. He specialises in the effects of environmental change and catastrophic events on contemporary thought and societal evolution.

The GWPF is set up as a charity that recieves donations from individuals and charitable foundations. Director Benny Peiser claims that the foundation does not recieve funding "from people with links to energy companies or the companies themselves. He would not reveal how many donors there are, what the maximum donation is or the identity of the donors".[7]
