David Durant is a UK politician and was formerly the National Secretary of the National Liberal Party (NLP) - The Third Way.[1] Durant is currently serving as Councillor for the Rainham & Wennington Ward of Havering London Borough, representing the Independent Resident's Group.[2]

National Liberal Party - The Third Way

Durant served as National Secretary for the National Liberal Party[3] and stood for elections under both Third Way and the National Liberal Party. In 2006 Third Way was renamed and the new name, the 'National Liberal Party, The Third Way' was registered with the Electoral Commission.[4]

Solidarity - The Union for British Workers

In November 2007 Durant was elected to the Solidarity Executive for a period of five years.[5] Solidarity, a self-described "nationalist union"[6] has close links to far right organisations such as the BNP and Civil Liberty. The BNP openly endorse Solidarity; a link to the Solidarity website, one of only four on the links page, is provided on the BNP website.[7]

In the 2005 General Election Durant stood for Third Way in the Upminster constituency and polled 78 votes or 0.2% of of the overall vote.[8]

In the 2009 St. Andrew's Ward by-election of Havering London Borough, Durant stood as a National Liberal Party candidate and polled 291 votes or 6.6% of the overall vote.[9]

In May 2010 David Durant stood as a candidate for the Independent Resident's Group and was elected to a borough council seat in Rainham & Wennington in Havering London Borough.[10]
