Bert Ward

Bert Ward was a manual worker for many years and active in the National Union of Railwaymen holding a variety of lay offices including the delegate to the NUR Darlington District Council and the Middlesbrough Trades Council. He then studied at Ruskin College before working for the AEU in their Peckham Head office. After attending LSE he became a lecturer in Politics and an activist in the lecturers' union NATFHE. Bert was an active member of the CPGB for 40 years until it disbanded, when he joined the Labour Party. A founder member of the cross party peace group New Dialogue, its secretary for some years, and editor of its monthly Information Bulletin New Dialogue News.[1]
