Bernt Reitan is a long serving director, consultant and executive with aluminium company Alcoa. he is also a director of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, Yara International ASA, International Primary Aluminum Institute and Renewable Energy Corporation ASA and is a former board member of the European Aluminium Association[1]

Biography

According to Business week's biography:

Mr. Bernt Reitan serves as Consultant of Alcoa, Inc. Mr. Reitan served as an Executive Vice President of Alcoa Inc. from November 2004 to August 1, 2010 and its Group President, Global Primary Products from October, 20 2004 to August 1, 2010. Mr. Reitan served as the Group President of Global Primary Products at Closure Systems International Inc. (also called as Alcoa Closure Systems International Inc.) since 2003 and as its Executive Vice President since October 2004. He served as the President of Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals at Closure Systems International since January 2001 and served as its Vice President since July 2001. In January 2003, he was appointed as President, Alcoa Primary Metals and by year-end 2003 he was named Group President for Alcoa Primary Products. He was elected Vice President of Primary Metals at Alcoa in 2003. He served as a Vice President of Alcoa Inc. until November 2004. He joined Alcoa in 2000 as General Manager of Alcoa World Alumina Chemicals in Europe. Mr. Reitan held a series of positions with Elkem in Norway over a 20-year period, plant manager of R?nd magnetite mine from 1980 to 1983, general manager of Elkem Chemicals Ltd. in England from 1983 to 1984, plant manager of Fiskaa silicon plant from 1985 to 1987, and business unit manager of ferro alloys division since 1987. Mr. Reitan served as the Senior Vice President of Materials and Technology and Managing Director of Elkem Aluminium ANS from 1988 to June 2000. From 1972 to 1979, he held civil engineering positions in Norway (Stavanger and Lillehammer). He served as the Chairman of Norzink A/S from 1995 to 2000. He served as Chairman of Alcoa of Australia Ltd. He has been a Director of Renewable Energy Corporation ASA since May 2010. Mr. Reitan has been an Independent Director of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. since September 2004 and Yara International ASA since May 2009. He serves as a Director of International Primary Aluminum Institute. He is co-chair of the board of Trustees in ASF (American Scandinavian Foundation), a non-profit organization in New York. He was Chairman of the board of the Norwegian Metallurgical Industry's Association from 1990 to 1992. He served as a Director of various associations including the European Aluminium Association, the Norwegian Employers Federation, the Norwegian Process and Manufacturing Association. His corporate board memberships include Arkwright Insurance Inc.'s international advisory board; Hunsfos A/S and Raufoss A/S. Mr. Reitan holds a M.Sc. in civil engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway.[2]
