Peter Broderick became the head of Army information in Northern Ireland in 1973.[1]

On 12 August 1974, he wrote a paper called 'The Information War' calling for a 'strong, determined psychological operation' under the cover name 'information policy'. It envisaged a range of techniques from political speeches to 'at the extreme - front organisations, rumor etc.'[2]
