Eric Hester is a moral conservative activist, former Vice Chair and continuing trustee of the Family Education Trust. In 2000 Family and Youth Concern reported his appointment as Chairman and noted that he 'recently retired after 36 years in teaching, the last eight of which were as Headteacher of a boys grammar school in Altrincham, Cheshire.'[1] According to Hester himself, writing in 2010 'Since I was a head master of Catholic Schools for twenty-four years, grammar and comprehensive, and I am still an inspector of schools, I am especially interested in Catholic education.'[2] After retirement Hester became 'editor of Mentor an independent periodical for Catholic schools, teachers, parents and governors.'[3]

Hester opposes compulsory sex education in schools, writing in defence of the 'Birmingham Oratory Three' that 'They rightly opposed the last government's plans for compulsory political sex education and highlighted the support of the Catholic Education Service for this sex education which explicitly promoted abortion, contraception and homosexuality.'[2]
