Defence Operations Centre
The Defence Operations Centre was set up in the early to mid 1960s by the Ministry of Defence. According to a statement in the House of Lords by the Earl of Home in July 1963:
- The Defence Operations Executive has been set up to give formal expression to the growing interdependence of the Services by establishing in Whitehall a regular body of responsible officers for the better co-ordination of the Services in action. These officers will be able to function more efficiently than under present arrangements, because they will be provided with fully up-to-date facilities in the shape of the new Defence Operations Centre, and the facilities described in the White Paper: and, of course, they will be acting in accordance with well-established procedures.[1]
