Ricardo Soares de Oliveira is a researcher interested in international relations, international political economy and "alternative" globalisations in natural resource extraction, state decay and organised crime. His theoretical interests are the diverse political trajectories of modern states and the linkages between the political imagination and political actuality and, at the methodological level, a concern with interdisciplinary approaches across the social sciences and the humanities.

Career

De Oliveira was Academic Coordinator of the Cambridge Security Programme (CSP) (2003-2007). He has a BA in Politics from the University of York and an MPhil in International Relations from the University of Cambridge. He has also been a Visiting Scholar at the Centre d'etudes et recherches internationales (Sciences-Po) in Paris and a Joseph C. Fox Fellow at the Centre of International and Area Studies at Yale University. He has worked at the World Bank, the European Commission and Catholic Relief Services. He is presently completing his doctoral dissertation on "Petroleum and the Political in the Gulf of Guinea" at the Centre of International studies, University of Cambridge. [1]
