1997-2006, Secretary-General; UN, first to emerge from staff; currently, continues to advocate for better policies to meet needs of poorest and most vulnerable, particularly in Africa. President, Global Humanitarian Forum. Chair, several initiatives including Africa Progress Panel, Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa Prize Committee, Mo Ibrahim Foundation. Recipient of awards including, Nobel Prize for Peace jointly with UN (2001).
