Kyle received both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Sociology at Simon Fraser University, Canada. He is currently undertaking doctoral research in sociology at the University of Strathclyde studying the political economy of fresh water. Kyle’s PhD research builds on his master’s thesis entitled, “The Political Economy of Fresh Water: From the Commons to Corporate Enclosure.”

His current work explores not only the history of the commons but also the history of fresh water commons discourse and its competing uses. Kyle’s research entitled, “The Political Economy of Fresh Water: Liberal Democracy, the Ascendancy of Transnational Corporate Private Property and the Paradox of the Fresh Water Commons,” pays critical attention to the property relations that define the fresh water commons and, in contradistinction, the inconsistencies and contradictions that make-up mainstream commons discourse – those that obscure the paradox that is the existence of the commons within liberal democracies.
