UCATT
Background
The Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians (UCATT) is Britain's only specialist construction workers union. It has more than 120,000 members employed in building trades in both the private and public sectors. [1]
Pro nuclear
UCATT's convener at Sellafield, Howard Rooms, is also the national secretary of nUKlear21. In a supplement to The Spectator magazine, published 'in association' with BNFL and British Nuclear Group, he wrote: 'We believe that nuclear power - a non-carbon-emitting means of generating electricity - has an important role to play as a provider of baseload power well into the 21st century'. [2]
In January 2005, Rooms lobbied the recently-formed European Parliament Forum for the Future of Nuclear Energy. [3]
