Glasgow chartered accountant and Jewish communal officer
Brian Fox (Brian Michael Fox, born September 1964)[1] is a Glasgow chartered accountant[2] and Jewish communal officer. He was chairman and later treasurer of Newton Mearns Hebrew Congregation, and is treasurer of Giffnock Newton Mearns Synagogue and honorary treasurer of Eastwood Jewish Community Centres. He is a trustee of Glasgow Maccabi and a director and honorary treasurer of Jewish Care Scotland.[3][4][5]
Newton Mearns Hebrew Congregation
In May 2013 the Jewish Chronicle quoted Fox, as chairman of Newton Mearns Hebrew Congregation, on the joint appointment with Giffnock and Newlands Hebrew Congregation of a youth and community rabbi, Eliezer Wolfson. He said he was "keen to improve the religious facilities for the youth in Glasgow", and, on a proposed merger of the two congregations that had been shelved, that the congregations "decided they didn't want to go down that road at this time. People have different reasons but I think at the end of the day they wanted to retain their independence."[3] In December 2013 the paper reported that Gary Winston had succeeded him as chairman at the congregation's annual general meeting, and that Winston described Fox as an "excellent chairman".[6]
As the congregation's treasurer, Fox was one of the three trustees, with Bradley Kay (chairman) and Jason Fisher (secretary), who granted a standard security over the synagogue at 14 Larchfield Court, Newton Mearns, to the members of the Finance Committee of the Glasgow Jewish Community Trust, recorded on 18 March 2016.[7]
Giffnock Newton Mearns Synagogue and Eastwood Jewish Community Centres
Fox was elected treasurer of Giffnock Newton Mearns Synagogue in June 2022,[8] and is listed as treasurer in its accounts for the year to 31 August 2025 and as "Hon. Treasurer" on its website.[4][9] The accounts of its sister charity, Eastwood Jewish Community Centres, which owns the former Newton Mearns synagogue at Larchfield Court, list him as honorary treasurer for the same year, and he signed them on the trustees' behalf with Ephraim Borowski.[5] The Scottish Charity Register lists him as a trustee of both charities.[10][11]
Glasgow Maccabi and Jewish Care Scotland
Fox is one of the seven trustees of Glasgow Maccabi (SC019965) listed on the Scottish Charity Register in October 2026, and he signed the charity's accounts for 2025.[12][13]
He has been a director of Jewish Care Scotland (company SC179994; charity SC005267) since 29 August 2013.[1] The charity's accounts for 2024 list "Mr B M Fox" as honorary treasurer, and he signed them on the board's behalf on 10 September 2025.[14] He is also on the Scottish Charity Register's list of its ten trustees.[15]
He is the independent examiner, appointed "on a voluntary basis", of the Netherlee and Clarkston Charitable Trust, whose 2026 accounts give his address as 3 Clairmont Gardens, Glasgow G3 7LW.[2]
