Richard Tomlinson is a former MI6 officer. After leaving the service, he was jailed for breaching the Official Secrets Act 1989.
Prosecution
In December 1997 Tomlinson was sentenced to 12 months in prison after pleading guilty to unlawfully disclosing official information. He had sent a synopsis of a proposed memoir to an Australian publisher.[1][2] He later published a memoir, The Big Breach (2001). The Court of Appeal ruled on the government's attempt to stop UK newspapers publishing material from it.[3]
