Joint Intelligence Operations Centre
UK Defence Intelligence unit coordinating Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) support
Joint Intelligence Operations Centre (JIOC) is a British Defence Intelligence unit responsible for coordinating multi-domain Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) activities in support of UK Armed Forces operations.[1]
History
The JIOC was established within the Pathfinder Building at RAF Wyton as part of the Joint Forces Intelligence Group (JFIG). It evolved from earlier ISR coordination structures following the 2013 relocation of Defence Geospatial Intelligence capabilities to Wyton under the Programme to Rationalise and Integrate the Defence Intelligence Estate (PRIDE).[1]
When the Joint Forces Intelligence Group was disbanded in 2016, its ISR coordination functions were retained and re-roled within the newly formed National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence (NCGI) structure, with the JIOC continuing as the dedicated operational ISR hub for Defence.[2]
Role
The JIOC provides real-time and reach-back ISR coordination across all domains. It fuses intelligence from multiple sources to support tactical, operational and strategic decision-making for UK land, air and joint forces on global operations.[1]
It works in close partnership with the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence (NCGI) and the Defence Intelligence Fusion Centre (DIFC), both also based at RAF Wyton, forming part of the UK’s centralised intelligence hub.
Location
The JIOC is based in the Pathfinder Building at RAF Wyton, Cambridgeshire.[2]
