Emily Hilton (known as Em Hilton, born August 1991) is an Australian Jewish organiser, commentator, writer and strategist.[1] She is the co-founder of Na'amod (British Jews Against Occupation) and serves as UK Director of Diaspora Alliance.[2] She sits on the advisory/steering committee of the Centre for Jewish Non-Violence.[1]
Raised in Bondi, Australia, Emily Hilton states she lives between 'Tel Aviv' and London. She has written extensively on antisemitism, 'Israel-Palestine' issues and Jewish diaspora organising.[3]
Career and activism
Emily Hilton co-founded Na'amod in 2018 as a movement of UK Jews opposing Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories.[4] She has spoken publicly on organising against antisemitism while advocating for Palestinian liberation and has appeared in media including Novara Media, Al Jazeera and Tribune.[5]
She is also involved in legal action through Diaspora Alliance challenging UK government approaches to antisemitism.[6]
Views on whether she is an anti-Zionist
No public statements or writings by Emily Hilton have been identified in which she explicitly describes herself as an anti-Zionist.[7] She consistently identifies as a co-founder of Na'amod, which describes itself as opposing Israel's "occupation and apartheid" but states it "does not take a common position on Zionism" and includes members who are Zionists, non-Zionists and anti-Zionists.[8]
External media sometimes labels Na'amod or Emily Hilton as part of "anti-Zionist" Jewish groups, but she has not adopted this self-description in her own published work or statements.[9] Her public focus remains on ending communal support for the occupation, combating antisemitism and promoting equality and justice for Palestinians and Israelis.
