John Neill
John Neill is the CEO of multinational logistics, supply chain, manufacturing and consultancy company Unipart.
Career
Neill joined British Leyland in 1974 as a young business graduate before moving to the Unipart parts division. When previous boss Sir John Egan left the company, 29 year old Neill took over and in 1987 led a management buyout and persuaded most of the 2,000 staff to buy shares in the company.
To learn how to improve his business, Neill went to Honda and Toyota to understand how they achieved quality and efficiency. Clients were so impressed that they began asking if Neill could help them, after eventually rejecting this idea Neill trained his staff so he could hire them out and began as a consultancy company too.[1]
Contract with the NHS
Unipart have won consulting contracts with the NHS specifically on ambulance services, such as £143,059 worth of consulting to Yorkshire Ambulance Service.[2]
Letter to the Telegraph
On 1 April 2015 Neill was one of 103 business leaders who wrote to the Telegraph praising the British Conservative Party's economic policies and claiming a Labour government would 'threaten jobs and deter investment' in the UK.[3]
