February

  • 5 - First British soldier shot dead in Northern Ireland.[1]

April

  • 11 - Easter Sunday. According to a 1974 briefing for Prime Minister Harold Wilson, "“Plain-clothes teams, initially joint RUC/army patrols, have operated in Northern Ireland since the IRA bombing campaign in Easter 1971."[2]

August

  • 18 - 28-year-old Eamonn McDevitt shot dead by the British Army in Strabane.[3]
