John Steele

John Steele is a former Northern Ireland Office civil servant.
Steele held a variety of posts in the Northern Ireland Civil Service, before becoming Director of the Northern Ireland Court Service from 1982 to 1987.[1]
Steele was the Controller of Prisons in Northern Ireland between 1987 and 1992; the Undersecretary for Security in the Northern Ireland Office between 1992 and 1995; and the Director of Policing and Security in 1995 which was later titled Senior Director Belfast Policing and Security from 1996 onwards.[2]
He was Senior Director of the NIO (Belfast) from September 1996 until his retirement in September 1998. In 1999, he was appointed one of the Civil Service Commissioners for Northern Ireland.[1]
