- 1 - Eugene Rostow warns Senate Budget Committee that US security position will erode without a substantial increase in the Defense budget.[1]
May
- 16 - In Is SALT II a Fair Deal for the United States, a publication of the Committee on the Present Danger, Paul Nitze claims the Soviet Union is attempting to outflank Western Europe via the Middle East.[2]
July
- 25 - Rostow tells Hartford conference on United States Security and the Soviet Challenge that "the Soviet Union is engaged in a policy of imperial expansion all over the world".[3]
August
- Coalition For Peace Through Strength formed to build opposition to a Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty in Congress.[4]
October
- 5 - A report by the Committee on the Present Danger, Is America becoming Number 2? Current Trends in the U.S. Soviet Military balance, charges that "the Unites States will become vulnerable to a Soviet pre-emptive attack without further improvements in US weapons."[2]
