Rhodesian Light Infantry
The Rhodesian Light Infantry was a whites-only unit of the Rhodesian Army.[1]
The 1st Bn., The Rhodesian Light Infantry was established in February 1961, originally as part of the the Army of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. Initially based at Bulawayo, the battalion moved to its permanent base at Cranborne Barracks, Salisbury (now Harare).[2]
In 1964, the unit changed from a conventional to a commando unit.[3]
People
- Fraser Brown, now in Management at Erinys, left the British military to sign up with the Rhodesian Light Infantry where he served for 4 years in the Para Commandos between 1975 and 1979.[4]
- AG Sachse - was awarded the Bronze Cross of Rhodesia while serving in 3 Commando of the Rhodesian Light Infantry in 1970.[5]
