AminoSweet is a new name (as of November 2009) for the artificial sweetener aspartame. The aspartame producer Ajinomoto rebranded its product in November 2009.[1] A story reporting the rebranding in FoodBev.com says, "The name AminoSweet is appealing and memorable. It reflects that AminoSweet comes from the same amino acids that are abundant in the food we eat every day." This might be seen by critics as an attempt to give aspartame/AminoSweet a natural gloss and to distance it from the many scientific controversies that have grown up around its use.[2]
