Lena Perenius
Lena Perenius has a degree in chemistry (biochemistry/microbiology) from the Stockholm University. She has more than 25 years of work experience with industry, national authorities, the European Commission and trade associations.[1]
Background
She worked for six years in the Chemicals Unit of DG Enterprise and Industry with responsibility for harmonisation of chemicals legislation, notably restrictions on the marketing and use of dangerous substances.[2] In 2002 she moved to CEFIC as director of REACH implementation. CEFIC represents the European chemical industry. REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) is an EU regulation which covers the production and use of chemicals in the EU. The regulation was welcomed by a broad alliance of health, environmental, labour, women's and consumer groups. The European chemicals industry was, however, not so enamored with the legislation and tried to delay, attack and then undermine the aims and the substance of the reform at every stage.[3][4]
