Proinsias De Rossa (born 15 May 1940, Dublin) is an Irish MEP from Labour Party. He is a member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament.

Record of Parliamentary Votes

• Proinsias De Rossa voted against the proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the patentability of computer-implemented inventions. He stated that "[the Commission, Council and the Member states] were over influenced by Microsoft" and "adopting an unbalanced approach ... would have favoured Big Business."

• He was the only Irish MEP to vote in favour of the Data Retention Directive (the report on the proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the retention of data processed in connection with the provision of public electronic communication services and amending Directive 2002/58/EC), passed in November 2005.
