Edward Bickham
Edward Bickham joined Anglo American plc as Executive Vice President, External Affairs, in April 2000. Prior to this he had been Deputy Chairman and Director of Strategy (Dec.1998-April 2000) and Managing Director, Corporate and Public Affairs (1993-2000) at Hill and Knowlton. His major clients included major media companies, British Energy; the Paper Federation and a number of foreign governments.
He served as Special Adviser to the Foreign Secretary (1990-93) during the Gulf War, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Maastricht Treaty negotiations. From 1985 until 1988 he was Special Adviser to the Home Secretary and to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1983-85). He was Director of Corporate Communications for British Satellite Broadcasting from 1988 to 1990.
He graduated in law from St John’s College, Oxford (1974-77). At Anglo American he has responsibility for stakeholder relations, the social and ethical dimension of sustainable development, public policy issues and overall communications strategy.
