Iva Zanicchi, MEP

Iva Zanicchi (born 18 January 1940, Ligonchio, RE) is an Italian pop singer and an MEP from the former Italian political party Forza Italia.

  • Diploma, School of Music and Song (Maestro Bertani) - Reggio Emilia (1958-1959).
  • Participant, Castrocaro Festival (1962).
  • Prizewinner, Zurich International Music Festival (1963).
  • Performance at Carnegie Hall, New York (1963).
  • Prizewinner, San Remo Festival (1967, 1969, 1974): remains the only woman singer to have won that festival's prize three times. Has worked with Mikis Theodorakis and Charles Aznavour and has made numerous recordings. Has performed at Madison Square Gardens, New York (1974) and the Regio di Parma theatre.
  • Has toured worldwide (South America, Japan, Australia, Korea, the US and Europe) (1984-1999).
  • Was the first Italian singer to perform in the Soviet Union (1981).
  • First performed on television in 1984.
