MAPS: New Map editor link is here: http://powerbase.info/index.php/Special:MapEditor . List of instructions for various types of maps at bottom here also https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Maps/en especially this one: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Maps/how_to:_maps but looks like a much better version of what we used to work with

(The extension we are using is https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Maps NB update: looking at the github notes, there may be a small issue with scalable custom markers - let us know if so) mj

refs

Hi Tamasin

I think you are doing some editing/updating of pages at the mo? Cd you pls do the refs according to the new format?--see http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php/SpinProfiles:A_Guide_to_Referencing "How to format referencing"

Do let me know if anything is not clear in this referencing guide because I want it to make sense to everyone.

Can you also fill me in very briefly on what you have been and are doing in Spinp at the moment? as it's useful for me to know who's doing what--then I know what I don't have to do myself, if that makes sense.

many thanks --Claire Robinson 13:16, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

On lists

Hi Tamasin

when you do lists of people and companies that have no additional text except their names, there is apparently a coding format that we need to follow. So at the moment at http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php/Cicero_Consulting we have a vertical list created with <br>:

AXA <br>

Abbey <br>

Alliance and Leicester <br>

The SpinP system is that we need to arrange lists like this across the page so they take up less space vertically. This can be done by doing a find and replace in Word before putting the article into SpinP:

Find ^p Replace with ]] | [[

Then the list goes nicely across the page ...

Does that make sense?

thank you! --Claire Robinson 14:06, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

why do you...

About Grayling... why do you remove an item that is clearly a quotation; edit it; remove references and blend it into less than useful text? silly. There must be several hundred quotations in Spin* which are in a <blockquote...>. do you aim to remove all of them? and are you going to replace direct quotes with your own versions of the text? The latter cannot be referenced.

portal

HI Tamasin

preparing for the public launch and just doing a tour of the portal pages. Cd you bung in some suitable text on yr Lobbying portal page in the bits where it says "text needed here" or delete the sections?

thanks! --Claire Robinson 14:17, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

DLA and other old pages

Hi,

don't delete old pages unless there is a good reason and you incorporate the new pages. the practice when an organisations changes name is to indicate that the name has changed and then we have two pages. The old one is primarily ghistorical and the new one can include such info from the old one as is relevant.

Can you restore the old DLA Upstream page and include a link tot he new name?

thanks

sourcing

HI Tamasin Probably a work in progress, but for article on Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry can you reference the info with a source--assume it's their website? thanks! --Claire Robinson 13:39, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

PS

PS on Lobbying portal page, can you put some text into the two empty sections that say "Text needed here"? imagine that someone asked you those q's and just write from the heart! thanks --Claire Robinson 13:44, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

source

HI Tamasin (copying to David as not sure who originated)

in

http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php/Weber_Shandwick

do we have a source for the following?

Documents released under FOI, show that Weber Shandwick worked for BNFL in 2004 and 2005.

thanks----Claire Robinson 16:23, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

boring stuff

Hi Tamasin

when we give weblinks in refs, we have to remember to prefix with

http://

not just www. ....

as for some strange reason if it's missing the http:// bit, the link does not work in the ref. Just corrected the ref in Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry article.

thanks! --Claire Robinson 19:34, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

why remove that passage?

on fitzsimons?

--David 18:00, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

look at this!

there is a new botton above the edit window at the extreme left which allows you to insert a map.

Test is here: Tamasin Cave

categories

Hi,

if you want the category conflict of interest only to apply to MEPs then you need a separate category ;like MEP Conflicts of Interest. the general category will be applicable to all conflicts...

refs

HI Tamasin

It's nice to 'see' you on the site...

Just a few tiny things.

can u do full refs on all your new pages, eg I've filled one out that's on the Big Tent page -- you just had the url and date the site was accessed, but we need more info than that for refs as things often get moved on the web or removed altogether and the more info we give, the more likely it is that the reader can track down the page or the info that was on it.

You can see full thing on referencing at http://www.spinprofiles.org/index.php/SpinProfiles:A_Guide_to_Referencing

in particular, you just need to note the section called, "New style referencing (please use in new articles)"

Also, where you have a list of people, as on Big Tent page, can you preface by saying when this list was current, and give a ref saying where you got it from, e.g.

==People==
As of January 2009, Big Tent's client list included:<ref>[http://www.bigtent/clients Our clients], Big Tent website, accessed 22 July 2009</ref>
*[[Blah blah]]
*[[Someone else]]

All this is onerous for the writer at the time but it does avoid a lot of frustration later, as we are finding with some older articles that we have no idea of when the info given was current. At GMWatch we've been contacted by people complaining that the info is wrong or out of date and if we can't say, "It was true in 1998", then we don't have much of a leg to stand on and might have to delete it.

Also if you are saying that someone founded something, as with D Cracknell founding Big Tent, can you give the ref? even if it's as obvious as the firm's website history, it helps hugely.

If you cd just whiz thru your recent pages and fill out the refs, that wd be great.

Many thanks and hope all goes well.

Tobacco guys

HI Tamasin

should I 'move' the page called the Tobacco Alliance to one called Tobacco Retailers Alliance as this seems to be what they call themselves? http://www.tobaccoalliance.org.uk/ Seems only the website is called tobaccoalliance.org.uk

what do you think?

thanks --Claire Robinson 20:34, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi again Tamasin, Have now created box for priority pages links to go into - you can either put them in direct or if you're pressed for time send them to me - however prob now won't get a chance to do them until next Mon. --Melissa Jones 17:27, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

health lobbying map

Hi Tamasin, Not sure if we're meant to be able to see the Health lobbying map yet - as I can't see it in two diff browswers... just the words 'Department of Health' at bottom of page. In edit mode, I can see lots of stuff though...--Melissa Jones 12:51, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
