Kirsten Oswald is the Scottish National Party (SNP) MP for East Renfrewshire having been victorious in the recent 2015 general election. The seat, which was previously held by the Scottish Labour leader and MP Jim Murphy, was seen as a safe Labour seat since Murphy took on the constituency in 1997.

The result saw Oswald overturn a Murphy's majority of over 10,000 votes to win by 3,718.[1]

Educated at the University of Glasgow she has spent a number of years working in human resources, she only joined the SNP in June 2014 and has therefore been described as a political novice. [2]

Oswald has been made a member of the Armed Forces Bill Select Committee from November 2015. [3]
