Disambiguation: Not to be confused with Dr. Iain Anderson, Scottish former special adviser to Labour and the author of a 2002 inquiry into the foot-and-mouth crisis.

Iain Anderson is the Director and Chief Corporate Counsel of financial services lobbying firm Cicero Group.

Background

Aberdeen-born Anderson graduated from St. Andrews University with an MA in Economics and Politics, later gaining a postgraduate qualification in Journalism from University of Wales, College of Cardiff. From 1990 to 1997 he worked for various publications, including a period as reporter for Money Marketing and as a member of the launch team of Investment Week. From 1997 to 2000, Anderson was director of Ludgate Public Affairs. From 2000, Anderson has been director and chief corporate counsel of Cicero Consulting. He worked part-time as an MP’s researcher from 1988 to 1990. In 2001 and 2005, he worked for Conservative MP Kenneth Clarke on the Tory Leadership Campaign Team.[1]

In an August 2010 interview[1], Anderson commented on the need to take advantage of the opportunity to shape reform at the beginning of a new Government:

This UK Government isn’t the so-called Brokeback coalition, this is the breakneck coalition. It is an interesting time because ministers are excited and full of beans, like things should be. The political debates about the affordability of health and pensions - things financial intermediaries provide - are much more mature now and offer a lot of opportunity... It can’t last forever, so the chance to influence the outcomes of policy is now.

Anderson states that his career ambition is "To continue to expand my business globally"; his life ambition "To always be at the heart of the debate"; and if he wasn't a lobbyist he would "Perhaps [be] an MP or a winemaker in Burgundy".[1]

He was the chairman of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Government Affairs Group from March 2010 to March 2012 and has been chairman of the Association of Professional Political Consultants since May 2014.[2]
