Davy Cooling, a driver from Luton, was an organiser in the English Defence League in 2009.[1]
BNP links
Cooling admitted to the Guardian that he had attended BNP events when younger, but said he was not a member of the party:
- "A few years ago I attended two or three meetings of the BNP in Luton, but I do not agree with their policy of banning black and other ethnic minoirity groups from membership. It doesn't matter what religion or race you are. Everyone is welcome to the EDL."[2]
Cooling's name nevertheless appears, with his former Luton address, on the list of BNP members leaked to Wikileaks.[3]
According to Hope not Hate, Cooling belonged to a group of hooligans active in the Luton BNP known as the 'MIG's' or 'Men in Gear':
- A fully-fledged BNP member, Cooling is now a key activist in the EDL Luton “division”. This is demonstrated by his status as administrator of the Luton division’s Facebook group. Cooling still shows interest in the party, as shown by his posting on the Facebook site of the BNP’s 2009 Red, White and Blue Festival, which said: “I may attend, it will be my first one – what’s the score?”[4]
