Martin Jacques was the reforming editor of Marxism Today (MT) who took it from the theoretical journal of the Communist Party of Great Britain to a market-friendly journal promoting the reform of the Labour Party as part of the process leading to the formation of 'New' Labour. Jacques was also an associate of Demos with his long time collaborator Geoff Mulgan.

With Nina Temple (who joins Geoff Mulgan on Crime Concern and is an associate of Peter Mandelson), Jacques formed the Democratic Left (DL), which gained the CPGB's £4m assets rather than those grouped around the Morning Star. The DL's New Times followed Changes as journalistic vehicles for Jacques's writings against Socialism. He was supposedly influential within Neil Kinnock's "modernising" circle until the 1992 election.[1]
