Atabay a former Iranian rockstar founded and managed the station which he founded in 2000. NITV a Farsi language channel, was credited by the U.S. press for encouraging street protests in Tehran after the 9/11 attacks in New York. The station is also credited with encouraging the student protests of 2003.

Zia Atabay is an Iranian exile assisting the US government with its campaign for regime change in Iran. He is the founder of Los Angeles-based NITV.

NITV is no longer broadcasting after running into financial difficulties in 2006. Some of the stations programs are now broadcast on Channel One TV. Atabay a former Iranian rockstar founded and managed the station which he founded in 2000. NITV a Farsi language channel, was credited by the U.S. press for encouraging street protests in Tehran after the 9/11 attacks in New York. The station is also credited with encouraging the student protests of 2003.
