According to his biographical account, on the University of Cambridge website:
- Professor Andrew M L Lever is Professor of Infectious Diseases and Honorary Consultant Physician at Addenbrooke's Hospital. His research interests concern retroviruses, from fundamental studies of the structure of some of the retroviral molecular components (see figure for recent structural solution of HIV packaging signal by his group in collaboration with Dr Gabriele Varani) through to the uses of retroviruses as gene vectors for gene therapy and understanding how they replicate in order to try and find new therapies. In College, he supervises second-year medics and natural scientists in Pathology. His hospital duties include clinical work as a general physician as well as specialist work on infectious diseases. He is on the Editorial board of a number of Journals of Infectious Diseases, Virology and Gene Therapy. He is a member of the Department of Health Gene Therapy Advisory Committee. [1]
