Oleg Gordievsky was a KGB colonel who worked secretly for MI6. In 1985 SIS exfiltrated him from the Soviet Union, and he lived in Britain until he died in March 2025, aged 86. Police said his death was not suspicious.[1][2]
Significance
Obituaries credit the intelligence Gordievsky passed to the West with helping to calm Cold War tensions in the 1980s.[3] Christopher Curwen was Chief of SIS at the time of the exfiltration.[4]
