Jonathan Russell

Jonathan Russell is the 'political liaison officer' at counter-extremism think-tank Quilliam Foundation.

Biography

My role involves looking after the core operations, fundraising and media team and managing our external relations with donors, the media, politicians and other think tanks. I have written on a range of topics related to extremism for international media outlets including CNN, Left Foot Forward and the BBC and appeared on the radio and television as a spokesperson for Quilliam.

While at the LSE studying for my MSc in the history of international relations, I worked as the Islamic Studies Research Intern at The Quilliam Foundation. I worked on the translation of religious texts, researched material for concept papers, co-ordinated Usama Hasan's media commitments and planned an international event. I rejoined Quilliam as the Programs Officer, where my role included fundraising and project management. I was promoted to my current position in September 2013.

In my spare time, I was the Treasurer for The Jasmine Ball, an event that raised over £50,000 for UNICEF's work in Syria. I enjoy watching and playing cricket and am the 1st XI captain for Hatfield Hyde Cricket Club.
