Chris Bryant has been the Labour MP for Rhondda since 2001, retaining his seat in the 2015 general election with a majority of 7,455. [1] In May 2015, Bryant was appointed shadow secretary of state for culture, media and sport. [2]

Background
Bryant joined the Labour Party in 1996, after a career in the Church and as a writer, as chair of the Christian Socialist Movement and a Hackney Councillor. [3] Since being elected in 2001, Bryant has carried out a number of different role in parliament including deputy leader of the House of Commons (2008-09), parliamentary under-secretary (2009), shadow minister for Europe (2010), shadow minister for home affairs (2011-13) and shadow minister for work and pensions (2013-14).
