Alex Younger was appointed as the next Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) in October 2014.[1]
Younger joined MI6 in 1991. He has had overseas postings in Europe and the Middle East and has filled a variety of operational roles.[1]
Afghanistan Station Chief
He was at one time the senior MI6 officer in Afghanistan.[1]
Head of counter-terrorism
He led MI6 work on counter terrorism in the three years running up to the 2012 Olympic Games.[1]
Head of operations
For the two years prior to his appointment as Chief of MI6 he oversaw the Service’s intelligence operations worldwide.[1]
