Crause Steyl is a South African pilot and former business partner of Sir Mark Thatcher. He has claimed that he was asked to fly stranded South African mercenaries out of Libya after the death of Muammar Gadaffi.[1]
In the 1990s, Steyl worked for Executive Outcomes flying mercenaries between South Africa and Angola.[2] He also worked for the company in Sierra Leone.[3]
Steyl was involved the in so-called Wonga Coup, an abortive attempt to overthrow the government of Equatorial Guinea in 2004, along with his brother Niel Steyl and his friend Simon Mann.[4]
