The Dublin and Monaghan bombings took place on 17 May 1974. Three no-warning car bombs exploded in Dublin at 5.30 pm. Twenty-six people (including a French and Italian citizen) and an unborn baby lost their lives. Ninety minutes later, a further seven people died when a fourth car bomb exploded outside Greacen's Pub in Monaghan town. This was the greatest loss of life in a single day of the Troubles, including even the Omagh atrocity of 15 August 1998.[1]
