Brig. Gen. Manaf Tlass is a Sunni Muslim general who defected from the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad on June 6, 2012.[1]

He is the son of a former Syrian defence minister, Mustapha Tlas. His sister, Nahred Ojjeh, is a wealthy Parisian socialite married to a Saudi businessman with extensive contacts in the Gulf.[1]
